Eye Strain or Headaches

Tired, aching or strained eyes are common after long periods of screen use, reading or close work. Eye strain is rarely harmful in itself, but it is often a sign that something is making the eyes work harder than they should.

Common symptoms

Eye strain shows up as a cluster of symptoms rather than a single one:

  • Tired or heavy eyes
  • Aching around the eyes
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Dry or burning eyes
  • Needing frequent breaks

What can cause eye strain?

Screen use is the usual trigger, but it is rarely the whole story. An uncorrected prescription, a dry eye surface or an eye-coordination problem all make sustained focus harder, and poor lighting compounds each of them. Presbyopia is a frequent cause after the mid-40s.

How we can help

We check your vision, your refraction, your eye coordination and your eye health, and assess for dry eye or other contributing causes — so that any advice we give addresses the actual reason rather than the symptom alone.
